AAMP Audio Output Settings

Created on June 21, 2022

Audio settings are platform (M12/M11) and TV/Receiver dependent.  This controls audio format sent out HDMI and does not impact which audio stream is sent to the audio decoder.

  1. “Stereo” : sends all audio as stereo PCM out HDMI, regardless of the TV capabilities, regardless of the incoming audio stream. Audio stream is decoded and down mixed to 2 channels, system pcm (Voice Guidance, etc..) is mixed in , and sent out HDMI.
  2. “Auto-Detect” : If the TV only supports stereo, then same as “Stereo” above
    • If TV supports up to DD/AC3 (and not DD+) , or box is STB and older (MS11), then all audio formats are decoded, mixed with pcm (Voice Guidance) and re-encoded to AC3 (this allows 5.1 channel support over HDMI)
    • If TV supports DD+ and STB having MS12 licensed, then all audio formats are decoded, mixed with pcm, and re-encoded to DD+ (which allows 7.1 channel and Atmos support)
  3. “Expert Mode” : If TV supports the audio stream format directly, then the raw audio bit stream is sent with no decoding or mixing of pcm
